There are three stages to building a TikTok Lead Gen ad.

Create an ad campaign

To get started, log into the TikTok advertising dashboard and navigate to Advertising Target and Lead Generation. Fill in your campaign level selections and click Continue.

Create an ad group

When you build your ad group, your options are placement (which is currently TikTok-only as no other app supports the Lead Gen feature yet), target audience (choose which demographic to target), and bidding and optimization.
Ad level

Once you’ve created an ad group, you’ll need to create the ad itself. For lead generation campaigns, ads consist of a video, ad details (like text and a CTA), and an instant form for the lead to fill out.

Here’s how to build your ad:

  • Choose an ad name
  • Add your video to the ad, either by hitting upload, from the library, or create
  • Enter your ad details. This includes a display name, any text, a CTA, and a profile picture.
  • Now it’s time to build an instant form to link to your CTA.

There are several options here:

  • Click create to create a new form
  • Copy an existing form to reuse or update
  • Edit an already filled out form
  • Add third-party tracking links‍
  • Submit your finished ad and form

The minimum budget is £50 at the campaign level and £20 at the daily ad level. You can change your budget at any time.

Bidding for Tiktok ads

The bid indicates the amount you are willing to pay to have users take an action (set in your campaign objective and call to action) after they have seen your ad.

Tiktok offers four different bidding methods:

  • Cost per thousand/thousand impressions (CPM)

The price you are willing to pay for a thousand impressions. This focuses on getting the most exposure and reach within your budget.

  • Optimized cost per thousand/thousand impressions (oCPM)

The price you are willing to pay for a thousand impressions that are likely to convert into leads or take a conversion action.

  • Cost per thousand views (CPV)

The cost you are willing to pay for every thousand 6-second or 2-second video views.

  • Cost per click (CPC)

The price you are willing to pay for each click. The system will show your ads to users who are most likely to click within the set budget.
